Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother, who was initially known as "Fraga", was born into a Portuguese family. His father, however, was mostly English. Tom grew up in what he describes as an "fractured" family. He had no acting experience during his college. This is what made to launch his career. He auditioned in the city for a show in the community theater. The director invited him to Cleveland and that's when his acting career started.
